Anita Toque Mod: Pokemon Ball

With Pokemon Go everyone is going Pokemon crazy.  I’ve had an order for a pokeball beanie, so I took the opportunity to write up a mod to my Anita Toque hat to share with you.

Stats:

• Pattern: Anita Toque
• 5.00mm crochet hook
• worsted weight [4] yarn in red, white, & black
• yarn needle

The first step is to figure out your proportion of white to red in your hat.  Easy enough! Take the number of rows in total you are making for the size of hat & divide in half, the first half is done in red, the second in white.  If you have an odd number it will be perfect as one row in the middle is black. If the total number of rows is even, then you take one row away from the white half & make it black.

Example #1:

1. Total number of rows = (crown) + (length) + (hem) = 14 .
2. 14 divided by 2 = 7 with no rows left over.
3. Oh no! Even! So red = 7 , white will = 6 as we will take 1 away from it & make it black.

Example #2:

1. Total number of rows = (crown) + (length) + (hem) = 17.
2. 17 divided by 2 = 8 with 1 row left over.
3. Yay! So red = 8 , white will = 8, & black = 1.

Instructions:

Work up the Anita Toque pattern changing colours according to the above formula working your colours in red, 1 row of black, then white.

Round 1 – CH2, in first ch 6 SC, SS to first sc (6)

Round 2 – CH1, 2SC in each st around, SS to first sc (12)

Round 3 – CH1, (SC, 2SC) around, SS to first sc (18)

Round 4 – CH1, (BPSC in next 2 sts, 2BPSC) around, SS to first bpsc (24)

Round 5 – CH1, (SC in next 3 sts, 2SC) around, SS to first sc. End yarn leaving a long tail to sew button to hat. (30)

with black,

Round 6 –  STANDING SC in any sc after increase of round 5, SC in next 3 sts, 2SC, (SC in next 4sts, 2SC) around, SS to first sc. End yarn and weave in. (36)

Sew button onto the front of the toque, centering on the black stripe.
