You guessed right – I have very socialist views on life! I believe that a community is as well off as it’s least well off person or family. I have done a ton of charity work, was on many boards and associations, and was employed by a community organization that provided breakfast and lunch in many of the schools in Saskatoon and had a broad spectrum of programs helping people from newborns to seniors have good food to eat. I’m extremely fortunate to live in Canada and enjoy so many good things about being a Canadian. But I know first hand we can do better, there are still people who need help and that number is growing as the middle class is sliding towards poverty, or at least not breaking even and in fact breaking less than even. Yes – I’m voting NDP this October.
I had this great idea to show my support for the NDP, an orange toque sporting a white moustache in honour of the late and great Jack Layton. That man could have been the greatest Prime Minister ever. But I can’t leave out the current leader, hand picked by Mr. Layton, Tom Mulcair. For him I designed a beard and mustache!
I used a 3.5mm hook for both, worsted weight white yarn for Jack and one strand grey one strand brown in sport weight for Tom.

If there’s anything I can to do help you get started with spinning, just holler 😉 My plan is to teach it once I get some more experience under my belt. I have assisted with a couple of courses and it was wonderful! And if/when you start your quest for sheep, I do have some connections that would more than likely offer guidance if you needed it. I’m finding, for the most part, that the spinning world is different than the crocheting and knitting worlds. It seems have a tighter bond. Spinners seem to empower each other more than in the other mediums. Sure, there’s always a bad apple or two in the bunch, but that’s anywhere. I especially find that the older/more experienced spinners get super excited when somebody from a younger generation wants to learn. The course that I’m taking is 6 years and starts every 3 years. People come from all over Canada and the US to take it. The next class starts in 2017. Just sayin’… hehehe

I live in bustling metropolis of Minden, Ontario (if there was such a thing as a sarcasm font, it would be inserted here LOL). I think we’re up to around 4,000, but it fluctuates in the summer with everyone in Toronto migrating here. We’re about 2.5 hours north. I can’t wait to see the pillow! I’m only getting into Star Wars – my son is nuts about it. I’ve been busy nerding out in the Marvel Universe. I’m also a Whovian and a HUGE Kevin Smith fan. I try not to be political, but it always finds me LOL I may have considered listening to the Liberal platform, but when they voted in C51, they lost me completely. Although if the NDP didn’t get the majority, I’m on the same page as you. If the CONS get back in, it will totally shred any faith I have in the electoral process. I mean, they shouldn’t have gotten in the last time I’ve followed your blog and will drop in as much as I can. I’m taking a pretty intense spinning course and some bonehead figured she didn’t have enough to do, so she signed up for Spinzilla LOL I’ve liked your FB page too. I’m so thrilled your Death Star hat pattern is doing so well. I haven’t shown my son yet because I already know how it’s going to go LOL

the Death Star pillow pattern isn’t by me. It’s by Pops De Milk and available here! http://www.popsdemilk.com/crochet-death-star/
I’m hoping to learn spinning eventually. And hopefully having my own sheep or whatever for a fiber source. 🙂 I’m lucky to live on a quarter-section {161 acres}. I purchased a friends stash {she moved far far away} and it has some yarn that she made. Very cool!

I saw a post for the Death Star hat and then this was a suggested post. I was hoping it was about the same NDP I support. Sure enough! A crocheting, NDP-supporting, Star Wars nerd? You are all sorts of cool in my book! I totally agree about Jack Layton. He has so much potential. But I don’t think Tom Mulcair will let us down. I love how he shows his sense of humour too! A PM candidate with a human side? What’s that? hehehe Go NDP!

😀 thanks! Wait until I finally make a D20 pillow – then you’ll know I’m a dedicated nerd. {it’s on my Must Make list somewhere!} I am so hoping we have an NDP government – even if it ends up being a minority with the Libs as the Official Opposition. {add political nerd to the list}. Where are you from? I hope you keep visiting me here! 🙂
